Former Atlantic Recording Artists’, Collapsing Lungs breathe new music for the first time in 26 years! It took a global pandemic and the current political state of the world for the band to reunite and remotely write new music for an audience that is starving for it (and not getting it).
Vocalist, Brian Tutunick, started Collapsing Lungs in 1990 after a brief stint as the first/original bass player for Marilyn Manson (and the Spooky Kids). Collapsing Lungs played the South Florida music scene for a couple of years, opening up shows throughout the state for such bands as, Smashing Pumpkins, House of Pain, Rage Against The Machine and many others. This helped the band build a large statewide following and eventually, after lots of interest from many record labels they signed with Atlantic Records.
While in NYC recording their Colorblind CD in January 1994, the band was told by the head of Atlantic Records that the label was going to take the phenomenon that they created in South Florida and bring it to an international level, including a spot in a future Lollapalooza. The band was destined for greatness, at a time before the rap metal explosion that came years later with bands like Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock and Linkin Park. Unfortunately, due to internal conflicts, the band broke up.
In 2004, ten years later, a reunion show took place in Fort Lauderdale at the Culture Room to a sold out crowd. It was organized just for fun and it was very well received. Since that night there has been silence...
Until 2020, lead vocalist, Brian Tutunick felt the need to reconnect with the core members to continue what they started many years ago. Everyone that Tutunick reached out to was excited to create new music, to heal their own emotional scars and release some frustrations that continue to build day after day with all of the worldwide problems we’re facing.
The first track and video is titled, Cult45. It was written and performed by: Brian Tutunick (vocals), Pete Gross + Lloyd Holley (guitars), Mark Carpenter (bass), Michael McDermott (drums) and Chris Nicholas (keyboard/samples), who also directed and edited the video. Chris Goldbach (drums) doesn’t appear on the track but will also be contributing to new music, along side McDermott, who is also the drummer for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
This isn’t it, there’s more to come…stay tuned. Here is the new video for Cult45:
